New Staircase with Spindles and Bespoke Understairs Cupboards
We transformed an outdated 1970s white plywood staircase, originally located in a separate room and facing the opposite direction, into a stunning focal point for your home. The previous layout included a wall and door, with a feature step awkwardly protruding at the base.
To enhance both functionality and design, we restructured the landing joist layout, creating space for a wider and more elegant staircase. This new staircase is crafted with solid oak sides (strings) and treads, complemented by clean, square newel posts topped with pyramid caps.
For a refined finish, we installed slotted hand and base rails that accommodate stop chamfered spindles. The false landing joist was carefully clad and wrapped underneath the ceiling for a sleek, framed appearance. At the base of the staircase, a double-depth, double-sided feature step adds a grand touch, while 3D panelling extends throughout the downstairs hallway and landing, providing a cohesive design. The space is completed with traditional OG skirting boards and dado rails at the top of the panelling.
Additionally, we designed and built three full-depth cupboards under the staircase, each featuring solid oak fielded and raised panel doors for both beauty and practicality. To meet the customer’s specifications, we also created a custom solid oak display unit with fitted shelving beneath the main staircase, adding a personalized storage solution to the space.
This bespoke staircase and storage solution combines timeless design with modern functionality, making it a beautiful centerpiece in your home.
